Keep Your Resolution (3 Steps)
Pretty Funny (except for the negative ending)
Well, It is ABSOLUTELY true that most people do not keep their New Years Resolutions and that is what today’s post will be about.
Today (New Years Day) is my last family get together for the holidays. I have to be honest and say that I have fallen off the wagon through the holiday season and yo-yo ed back a bit. I am excited that after today I can start correcting the error of my ways.
2008 was a ground breaking year for me. I made MANY mental breakthroughs and my mind is right for staying on the right track. I stayed in a small town called Clendenin West Virginia for about 4 months this summer. Clendenin is like going back in time, the town is small and the people are friendly. The Elk river runs right through Clendenin and it made for many evenings setting with my feet in the water and several peaceful trips down the lazy river on a kayak with good friends. The time spent in this small town gave me a chance to sort through the mental clutter in my mind and think about my future and what is really important to me. It also let me know the importance of spending time thinking about your past, present and future. This “Reflection” time is very important and you should do it monthly, weekly or daily but definitely more than once a year. Always remember that “without a vision the people perish” and so does your goals.
It would be good for any one who is setting a New Years Resolution to go back and review my “Why Do We Fall” blog. You can be one of the few. . . .one of the proud. . . . one of the people who actually keeps their resolution if you follow the following rules.
1. Make your resolution flexible. Don’t say something like “no more fried foods” or “no more soft drinks” make it a simple goal and not a means to achieve the goal. The purpose of no fried foods or no soft drinks would be to lose weight so make your resolution to LOSE WEIGHT. If you say no more fried foods and you mess up one time you will probably say (like the above video) “well forget it, I failed”.
2. Make your first goal small and part of a bigger goal. If you want to lose 50lbs set your resolution to lose 10lbs then when you make it you will be fueled and excited and you can make a new one to lose 10 more and so on until you reach 50. You can make a resolution any day and not just on January 1st you know.
3. Put your butt on the line by letting everybody know what your goal is. Post it on the IThinkYouCan forum (link to the right) and write it on cards to put around your house, work and in the car. This will make you accountable and keep it on your mind.
I believe in all of you and I believe you can make your resolutions a reality.
Let me know if I can help you in any way.
HAPPY NEW YEAR,
Jon Dee (The Shrinking Hypnotist)
