Frankenstein Effect

November5

My name is Jon Dee and I am a comedy hypnotist.  I live in Knoxville TN with my absolutely perfect wife Adri and my rocking little boy Eden Scott (We have another one one the way but he don’t have a gender yet let alone a name).

This blog is a journey that I want to share with my friends, fans and the world. It is my journey to enjoy every second of life, lose weight, become more healthy/wealthy/wise and have fun while doing it .  I will use my skills as a hypnotist and my understanding of the working of the subconscious brain to tell you why; Most diets don’t work,

The reason we are overweight to start with

and

How to program your brain to make it easy to lose weight.

If you are overweight and you have tried everything but can’t seem to lose weight for good then I invite you to come back here often because I am writing this blog for people just like you.  Through my successes and defeats we can learn together and encourage each other to reach our goals.  Let me start by explaining something that has taken me about 2 years to figure out.

Why do we love to eat so dang much?  I have given it a name:

The Frankenstein Effect:

All of the people in our lives did not mean to hurt us by implanting HORRIBLE patterns in our brains over the years.  They truly meant well but in the end they created a monster, here are some examples.

As little kids our parents told us that a cookie will always make us feel better when we are sad.  They told us that good little boys and girls clean their plates because their are starving little kids in some other country. And they always gave us an edible treat when we did something good as a Reward.

Lets look ate the mental linkups made in our suggestable child minds when each of these actions take place.

A cookie when we are sad makes us believe that any time we have a bad day or a problem or we feel stressed out eating is our answer and might as well be our drug because it INSTANTLY makes us happy.

Clean your plate teaches us that you should not stop when you are full but eat every last bite which is usually about double the size of a healthy portion, SUPER SIZE MY REAR END PLEASE.

Food for reward gives us a subconscious pattern that the only way you can celebrate a victory or success is to eat.  In our culture (especially in the Baptist Belt) every holiday, birthday, wedding or get together of any kind is centered around food.  And we can’t have just a nice salad and baked potato but we have to have CAKE AND ICE CREAME AND HAMBURGERS AND HOT DOGS.

So basically we are trained from birth to eat when we FEEL BAD, to eat when we FEEL HAPPY and eat when we are BORED.  And don’t you dare leave any food on your plate or entire countries will be VERY MAD AT YOU.

Guys listen, If you are over weight it is not your fault.  You have been programed to do things wrong.  Here is a little personal story from my childhood that is one of the reasons I have always overeaten.

When I was a kid we lived in the country and me and my mom might have gone out to town about once or twice a week.  My mom was a fantastic cook and money was always a bit tight so we did not eat out every day like many people do these days.  I can remember when I was 15 riding in the car with my mom we passed by a Wendy’s Restaurant.  I BEGGED my mom to stop and she said no (she was not mean but probably on a budget) I can CLEARLY remember looking at her and being a little mad and saying “Well when I start driving I will stop and get fast food ANY TIME THAT I WANT TO!”  Within the next year I did get my drivers license and the very first day I went out by myself the first place I went was to the Taco Bell drive through.  I ORDERED ONE DOZEN TACO’S and I ate them all by my self.  I at that moment made a mental linkup of my own,

Eating Fast Food = POWER

and I battle with that linkup to this very day.

12 Tacos Please

12 Tacos Please

I engourage you to do some soul searching to find out what your mental linkups are with food and where they came from.  But please do not get mad at the person that placed them on you because just like Dr. Frankenstein they had very good intentions.

Until next time, I am;

Jon Dee (The Shrinking Hypnotist)
